Arthur W. Smith & Audrey F. Smith Methodist Scholarship Fund

Scholarships are awarded annually to worthy applicants living in Palo Alto county, administered by a selection committee from the Emmetsburg First United Methodist Church. Students from all over the county have received these scholarships over the years. This year we have over $_______to award to students. Guidelines for the three funds are essentially the same, except the Brenizer Endowment has a preference for those going into teaching or music.

Link above has the scholarship application form and guide sheet. This is open to both new students and those who are continuing their education. Please note the following general requirement and procedures:

¤ First preference is to members of the United Methodist Churches in Palo Alto County, IA.

¤ Scholarship shall be used for obtaining education beyond high school.

¤ Scholarship will be used for the school year beginning Fall of 2011 through Summer 2012.

¤ Scholarship shall be granted to individuals based upon their financial need and motivation for learning and/or academic ability.

¤ Persons are eligible to receive scholarship awards for more than one year, but must reapply each year.

¤ A transcript from the applicant’s school shall be required as evidence of satisfactory academic standing.

¤ Persons need not carry full-time class loads to qualify for scholarship

¤ Persons returning to school to enhance employment opportunities shall be considered the awards as long as other criteria are met. However, the scholarships are not to be used for workshops, seminars or similar continuing education opportunities.

¤ All applicants must submit a letter of application indicating financial need, motivation for learning and/or academic ability and why they are applying for this scholarship. The applicants need to send two letters of reference who shall be adults who are not relative or casual acquaintances. For the Brenizer Endowment, one reference should be a teacher or school counselor. One reference may be your pastor.
